Load Development
To get the best performance from a firearm, always use a suitable load. Our gun shop can test your shotgun, rifle or air rifle to find the most accurate fitting load for intended use. Bring your rifle to us, along with all ammunition types you wish to fire. Our gunsmiths perform extensive accuracy tests, using a range of loads, and record the results. We keep this data on file so that we have it to hand immediately when you order specific loads from us in the future.
FPC Firearms can develop stock factory rifles to achieve 0.5 MOA (half an inch at 100 yards). Our customers in Tunbridge Wells, and those in the surrounding Kent and Medway areas, often tell us how impressed they are at how much more accurate a firearm is after development.

Barrel Work

Our gunsmiths can breathe new life into the barrel of your favourite shotgun, rifle or air rifle, or fit a completely new one to your current model. Screw cutting allows you to fit a moderator, or a similar attachment, to a rifle or an air rifle, while crowning work recalibrates a damaged or “off” crown (the contouring at the muzzle end of the barrel) to improve accuracy.
Barrel work, and fluting in particular, also provides the user with weight saving benefits, improves rigidity and helps to dissipate heat.

Bedding
Bedding improves the accuracy of a shotgun, a rifle or an air rifle by securing the action and the stock together in a uniform manner, thereby reducing the amount of stress placed on the action by recoil. Typically, a rifle’s action doesn’t sit flush in the stock, and this makes it flex. This flexing has a negative effect on accuracy. Bedding creates a flush surface for the action, preventing it from moving around in the stock too much.
Pre-bedding, your rifle’s action is more likely to shift following a shot, meaning it could lose its ability to maintain zero. Another side effect that can result from this shifting is the recoil causing friction between the action and the stock. This wears the stock down prematurely.
Bedding extends the lifespan of the stock and saves you money over the longer term because you won’t need to invest into a new rifle, or into repair work, further down the line.
Action Blueprinting
This service accomplishes two objectives; it ensures the bolt lugs fit perfectly into the action, and that the action cycles effectively. There are many different ways to conduct action blueprinting. The process used depends on the type of shotgun, rifle or air rifle, and what it actually needs. For example, action blueprinting a Remington rifle won’t be the same as action blueprinting a Cogswell & Harrison rifle.
Often, work involves re-cutting the action threads and the bolt lug recesses, then lapping the bolt lugs, the true bolt face and the nose. Our gunsmiths usually perform action blueprinting as part of barrelling process.
